Extreme heat warning and some fun recommendations

    Dear TSA Reps,

I hope your seasons are off to a great and, hopefully, a flawless start! What better way to start the season than with a nationwide outage of our sole operations platform! That was a big "thumbs down", but you all got through it. Thanks for your ingenuity and resolve in dealing with that mess, and I'm sorry we couldn't have been more help.

My main reason for writing today is in anticipation of the extreme heat coming to the triangle this week. It looks like we are going to be around 100 degrees on Tuesday and I just wanted to make sure you spread word of caution to your swimmers and families to remain safe in the heat. I think the swimmers should be OK in that they are in and out of the water throughout the evening, but perhaps having some spray misters, outdoor showers, or a hose to cool off would be nice to have on hand.

My biggest concern is for the parents setting up for the meet as the heat will be most intense between 12 and 5pm. Please encourage your parents to wear bathing suits to set up and take occasional dips in the pool as needed. One additional idea is a sort of "parent plunge" that you can offer just before, and then perhaps 1 or 2 times during the meet (maybe during the 6 & under rope setup time). We offered a 5 minute "parent plunge" last week due to the heat and our parents liked that and are asking for it to become a meet tradition. Please consider something like this, or at least have some hoses, showers, or misters on hand for this week and other extremely hot meet nights. If you decide to have a "parent plunge" make sure to communicate that with the other team in advance so the parents can come prepared with a bathing suit.

As always, please let me know if you are having any troubles and the board and I will do our best to help.

Have fun and swim fast!! (and stay cool)
